My wife and I tied the knot on August 10, 2012 at the Crofoot Ballroom in Michigan, and I performed this song for her as a surprise that night!
The song's theme is inspired by a conversation we had after celebrating one of Natalie's birthday. She told me, "Birthdays remind me that I just want to do something great for the world, do something special."
As friends and family know, Natalie's already achieving that, but I thought I'd remind her through melody!
In June, Nat joined me in studio for two day recording session at Catherine North Studios. I love to create music with my Canadian friends there, and it was the first time she got to meet them in person. It was a treat to work with producer Michael Chambers (moon:and:6) again, and it was get to have Paul Federici guest on the harmonies!
Ashley Jo Farmer and I met at a Folk Alliance conference this year, and it was fun to have her collaborate with the project from many states away.
Natalie and I are releasing the song on our first wedding anniversary. It's been a great year, and we appreciate the love and support through out our journey together.
lyrics
Love Birds
Verse 1
I don’t need to be anything other than
I don’t need to be anything more
I don’t need to be anything other than a spirited man
Who loves you more than anyone else
More than anyone in the world
More than anyone else
More than anyone in the world
Verse 2
You don’t need to be anything other than
You don’t need to be anything more
You don’t need to be anything other than a passionate girl
Who loves you more than anyone else
More than anyone in the world
More than anyone else
More than anyone in the world
Bridge
If you reach for the sky and miss
Every shooting star
Know I will love you still the way you are
More than anyone in the world
Verse 3
We don’t need to be anything other than
We don’t need to be anything more
We don’t need to be anything other than two love birds
Who love each other more than anyone else
More than anyone in the world
More than anyone else
More than anyone in the world
